Support a Local Charity like Asheville’s Brother Wolf
‘Tis the season for giving, but sometimes the best gifts are those that benefit others. Have you considered honoring your loved ones with a donation to a nonprofit working for our community?
For example, one of our favorite local organizations is Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, a no-kill adoption center that also provides free spay/neuter assistance and a food pantry for pets. They sponsor educational programs that promote respect for companion animals as well.
What they do for homeless animals is pretty amazing: Each day, there are up to 100 puppies, kittens, dogs and cats available for adoption in their 10,000 square-foot Joyce B. Cambron facility at 31 Glendale Avenue. The animals are lovingly cared for by dedicated volunteers and staff.
Brother Wolf also sponsors a foster program, expanding their ability to save animals by placing them in temporary environments—more than 350 additional animals are fostered in this home network. Besides caring for homeless animals, Brother Wolf also sponsors low-cost vaccine clinics for the community at large, with the next one planned for January 11 at the tailgate market at 328 Leicester Highway.
A donation to Brother Wolf is always helpful, but here’s another idea for gift giving: support their White Ties & Tails Furball fundraising event on Dec. 31 at Celine & Company On Broadway. It’s for a good cause and fun, too—guests are supposed to creative a special “tail” for the event, and prizes will be awarded to those with the most inspired, ah, appendages.
Besides supporting Brother Wolf with a financial donation, please remember them if you’re thinking of getting a pet. Hundreds of animals would love to have a new home for Christmas!
